DECORATION PROCESS

Embroidery

Your design is sewn onto a garment using a computerized embroidery machine.

Embroidery gives a high quality, professional and long-lasting finish and is suitable for both text and logos. The first step with embroidery is to “digitize” the design. For this, we re-draw your design using a specialist software, which can then be read by the embroidery machine. Plain text in simple fonts is much easier and therefore cheaper to digitize than embroidered logos. For logos, the digitizing fee is £20 +vat. For simple text only designs, the digitizing fee is £5 +vat. Once digitized, your design is saved on file for any future requirements.

+ No minimum order quantity
+ High quality premium finish
+ Durable and long lasting
+ Can embroider designs with up to 15 colours, at no extra cost

– Initial setup charge
– Expensive for large logos
– Cannot be used where a graduated colour effect is required.
– Cannot embroider text below 5mm

Vinyl Transfer Printing

Your design is cut from a roll of coloured vinyl, using a CAD plotter. The design is then positioned on the garment and applied using a heat press. Vinyl Transfer Printing is best suited for low quantity orders, with no more than 3 colours in the design. It is ideal for larger back designs, which are too costly to embroider. The vinyl we use is very durable and is designed to withstand regular washing. Unlike embroidery, there are no initial setup charges (*providing you can supply your design in a Vector format).

+ No minimum order quantity
+ Cheaper than Embroidery
+ Can print up to A3 Size
+ No initial setup charge*

– Cannot be used for designs with more than 3 colours
– Cannot be used where a graduated colour effect is required.
– Cannot print text below 5mm
– Not as long lasting as embroidery

Full Colour Transfer Printing

Essentially the same process as vinyl transfer printing but instead of cutting your design in vinyl, it is printed onto specialist transfer paper. This is then applied to the garment using a heat press. Full Colour Transfer Printing is best suited for designs with lots of colours or gradients (e.g. photographs) where the final print needs to be exactly as per the original artwork. The transfer paper we use is very durable and is designed to withstand regular washing.

+ No minimum order quantity
+ Can achieve full colour print (e.g. photograph)
+ Can print up to A3 Size
+ No initial setup charge

– Large transfers can feel a bit rubbery
– Not as long lasting as embroidery

Screen Printing

Your design is applied to the garment using specialist inks. First, we separate each colour in the design and a silk mesh screen is created for each colour. Ink is then applied to the top of the screen and a squeegee is used to force the ink through the silk mesh, onto the garment. This is done one colour at a time, to “layer” your design. Due to the costs involved in making the screens, this method is not suitable for producing small runs, but on large quantity orders it is the cheapest most cost-effective decoration method available.

+ Cheapest decoration method for large quantity orders
+ Small lettering and detailing can be achieved
+ Durable and long lasting

– Initial setup costs
– Minimum order quantity of 50
– Difficult to achieve a graduated colour
